ILGARD COMMENDED FOR 20 YEARS OF SERVICE

The Institute for Local Government Administration and Rural
Development (ILGARD) received a proclamation from the Ohio
House of Representatives on Monday during its biannual advisory
committee meeting.
Representative John A. Carey, Jr. (R - Wellston) commended
the institute for exemplary service to the region and presented
a plaque in celebration of ILGARD's 20th anniversary.
"I have used ILGARD's services myself a number of times,"
said Rep. Carey. "Both their computer mapping capabilities
and their assistance in researching the school funding issue
have proven invaluable. ILGARD contributes a tremendous amount
of resources and expertise to Ohio's communities. I am honored
to recognize them." Rep. Carey is the chairman of the
ILGARD advisory committee.
Rep. Carey made the proclamation on behalf of himself and
the Speaker of the House, Larry Householder (R - Glenford).
Leslie Flemming, dean of Ohio University's College of Arts
and Sciences, accepted the proclamation on behalf of ILGARD.
ILGARD is a part of the Voinovich Center for Leadership &
Public Affairs within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Dean Flemming said that Ohio University is "extraordinarily
proud of ILGARD's accomplishments as a premier outreach arm
of the university. They provide exemplary service to the community
and make a distinct contribution to Ohio University's academic
mission through their extensive student involvement."
Since 1981, ILGARD has been making knowledge work for Ohio's
communities. Through applied research and technical assistance,
ILGARD helps improve the performance, quality and efficiency
of government and other organizations; provides information
and technology services that increase regional competitiveness;
and involves Ohio University students in important public
service projects.
