Exploring Appalachia
East Tennessee Historical Society
Located in Knoxville, Tennessee, the East Tennessee Historical
Society has a variety of exhibits dealing with Tennessee history
and the Civil War. Currently on display is the Spruiell Collection
of documents, furniture, textiles and other items spanning
more than two hundred years of the region's history. Free
workshops on tracing your Civil War genealogy are also being

Ohio's Hill Country Heritage Area
Ohio's Hill Country Heritage Program envisions people working
together to identify, conserve, and develop appropriately
the natural, cultural, recreational and economic resources
that make up Appalachian Ohio. The goal is to enhance the
quality of life of the region's residents and to welcome visitors
to experience the area's rich heritage, natural beauty and

Stories of the Lives of Appalachian Women: Our Lives in
Urban and Rural Appalachia
The Appalachian Women's Grassroots Book Collective has proposed
an anthology the showcase Appalachian women's lives. If you
have a story, poem, essay, photograph, drawing or other comparable
work to contribute that draws from the life of a woman living
in Appalachia or who has Appalachian roots that are relevant
to the story being told, send inquiries to the editor at AppWomyn@yahoo.com.
Please include your name, age, general area of residence,
place of birth and childhood, storyline, and a writing sample.
Email submissions are preferred with work included in the
body of the post. Deadline is June 1, 2002.
