Wetland Scientist

Tenure Track Faculty Positions in Microbial Ecology,
Plant Ecology, and Plant Physiology
University of Toledo
The Department of Earth, Ecological and Environmental Sciences,
a new and rapidly growing academic unit at The University
of Toledo, invites applications for THREE TENURE-TRACK FACULTY
POSITIONS (RANK OPEN) in MICROBIAL ECOLOGY, PLANT ECOLOGY
and PLANT PHYSIOLOGY to complement existing strengths in hydrology,
geology and ecology. Successful candidates must have a Ph.D.
and postdoctoral experience. They will be expected to have,
or develop, an externally-funded research program, and participate
in undergraduate and graduate instruction. Candidates will
join an interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on the
Lake Erie basin and/or bioremediation research utilizing the
University's new Lake Erie Research Center and Plant Science
Research Center. Joint appointments in the appropriate centers
are planned. These positions may begin in either January 2003
or August 2003 at the discretion of the successful candidates.

Chief Ecologist
NatureServe, Arlington, VA
The Chief Ecologist manages the NatureServe Ecology Department
to result in the effective conservation of ecological systems.
He/she will promote and support innovative approaches for
the development and management of scientific information and
its application to conservation decision-making at regional
and site levels. The Chief Ecologist works in partnership
with the network of Heritage Programs and Conservation Data
Centers, as well as other national and international organizations
and agencies that strive to conserve biological and ecological
diversity. The Chief Ecologist has responsibility for public
and private fundraising in support of this work and is responsible
for associated grants and contracts. A Ph.D. in ecology or
biology is strongly preferred, ideally with special emphasis
in terrestrial and aquatic ecology. Experience with practical
conservation activities and the NGO community is highly desirable.

Camp/Volunteer Coordinator

Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne,
PA is seeking applicants for a full-time, year-round position.
Some weekends and evenings required. The Camp/Volunteer Coordinator
is responsible for the successful operation of Riverbend's
environmentally themed day camps held throughout the year
including 12 weeks during the summer; recruiting and managing
Riverbend's volunteers; and assisting in teaching Riverbend's
school programs. Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor's degree
in appropriate field. Excellent verbal, computer and written
communication skills. Minimum three years experience managing
staff and volunteers. Knowledge of natural history, biology,
and environmental issues. Experience in residential, outdoor
or similar teaching environment. Compensation: $23,000 annually,

Outdoor and Environmental Education Instructors
River Ridge Environmental Education Program, TN
River Ridge Environmental Education Program, three point
peninsula on Watts Bar Lake (one hour west of Knoxville, TN)
is seeking individuals to teach small groups of 4th-8th grade
students from a curriculum of over 30 hands-on environmental
education, outdoor recreation, and challenge/team building
classes. Also facilitate high ropes course, assist in leading
two evening programs per week, work one weekend per month,
develop programs, and aid in various aspects of center operations.
Qualifications: genuine interest in kids, enthusiasm for learning
and teaching about nature in outdoor setting, ability to work
as a team with other staff members, well developed communication
and leadership skills, self-motivated, teaching and/or camp
experience a plus, degree in related field. Full-time, seasonal
position, August 25 - November 22, 2002. $200/week, plus housing,

Environmental Educators/Camp Staff
Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Camp Allegheny,
Stoystown, PA, is seeking Environmental Educators / Camp Staff.
Duties: Assist in the instruction of fifth grade students
in the area of environmental education. Help train and oversee
high school students serving as camp counselors. Lead activity
hikes, campfires, group activities. Qualifications: Bachelors
in environmental education, environmental studies, natural
sciences, education or related field. Prior experience working
with children a plus but not required. Dates: September 20,

Environmental Education Internship
Shaver's Creek Environmental Center, Petersburg, PA
Shaver's Creek Environmental Center in Petersburg, PA, an
environmental education laboratory administered by Penn State
University, offers environmental education programs for visiting
groups; natural / cultural history exhibits; live amphibians
and reptiles; hiking trails, and more. Our Raptor Center is
one of the few federally and state licensed raptor facilities
in Pennsylvania providing perpetual care and housing for eagles,
falcons, hawks and owls. Responsibilities: Interns become
an integral part of the staff and are encouraged to participate
in all aspects of the center's operation. Duration of the
internship ranges from 12-19 weeks depending on the season.
We provide an on-site intern house with private rooms, and
a weekly stipend of $150.00. Interested candidates can call,
