Funding

Patagonia Grants
Patagonia has funding available for citizen-supported organizations that identify and work on the root causes of environmental problems and approach issues with a commitment to long-term change. Eligible projects must be action-oriented, strategic, build public involvement and support, and focus on basic causes. Patagonia focuses on funding around local groups working to protect local habitat, and supports individual efforts to protect a specific stand of forest, stretch of river or indigenous wild species. For more information visit http://www.patagonia.com/enviro/grants_app.shtml.

Ben & Jerry's Foundation
The Ben & Jerry's Foundation offers competitive grants to not-for-profit, grassroots organizations throughout the United States which facilitate progressive social change by addressing the underlying conditions of societal and environmental problems. All of the Foundation's funding decisions are made by a team of Ben & Jerry's employees that meets three times a year to review proposals. Although the Ben & Jerry's Foundation doesn't prioritize any particular issue area for funding, they do focus on the types of activities and strategies an organization uses for creating social change in any number of areas. The Foundation will only consider proposals from grassroots, constituent-led organizations that are organizing for systemic social change. We support programs and projects that are examples of creative problem-solving. Grants range from $1,001 to $15,000. For details, visit http://www.benjerry.com/foundation/guidelines.html

Appalachian Community Fund
ACF's grantmaking program supports organizations where people are organizing themselves to address problems in their own communities and neighborhoods and where organizations develop and grow with democratic structures to be vehicles for change. Issues range from worker's and women's rights to environmental justice, community-based economic development, racism, and youth issues, among others. The focus for our grantmaking is grassroots organizing for social change. Grants made from the General Program have a Maximum grant size of $7,500. Last year the average grant was $6,000. We accept proposals for the General Program annually on November 1. To view guidelines, visit http://www.appalachiancommunityfund.org/ACFgrant_pg1.htm.
