Nutrient Criteria from the Capacon Institute
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is
publishing recommended water quality criteria to reduce problems
associated with excess nutrients in water bodies in specific
areas of the country. This is the first time an effort has
been made to establish nutrient standards that are protective
of ecosystem health -- rather than levels designed to protect
human health in drinking water. EPA is working with the states
and tribes to adopt regional-specific and locally appropriate
water quality criteria for nutrients in lakes, reservoirs,
rivers, streams, and wetlands in seventeen ecoregions. This
site offers informational links and an online presentation
on this topic. http://www.cacaponinstitute.org/nutrient_criteria.htm
Sustainable Measures
Sustainable Measures works with communities, companies, regional
organizations, and government agencies at all levels to develop
indicators that measure progress toward a sustainable economy,
society, and environment. The site offers free training materials,
a searchable indicators database, a list of online and print
resources, and answers to questions about indicators and sustainability.
