Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival, Middlesboro, KY
October 4, 5, and 6 is the annual Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival. According to the official website, the festival “celebrates mountain life past and present with a variety of displays and activities such as antiques, crafts, country and contemporary music, pioneers games, antique car show, great food and an aviation show featuring Warbirds from World War II.” This year’s entertainment features famous country band Shenandoah. Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour, Scranton, PA
This tour allows visitors to descend 300 feet to explore rock tunnels at the Lackawanna coal mine and see first hand what it is like to be a coal miner. Tour guides discuss coal’s importance to industrial development as well as the influx of immigrants brought in by the coal trade.
