World Water Day

The United Nations has declared 2003 to be the International Year of Freshwater, and March 22, 2003 is World Water Day. Organizations around the world are holding events to coincide with World Water Day, including Groundwater Awareness Week, March 16-22, sponsored by the National Groundwater Association. Water Quality Standards Academy Basic Course

The U.S. EPA will host two no-cost sessions of the Water Quality Standards Academy Basic Course in the Washington DC area March 24-28, 2003 and April 28-May 2, 2003. This is a five-day introductory course designed for those with less than six months of experience with water quality standards. Areas of instruction include: policy and program administration, interpretation and application of water quality regulations, and all other aspects of the water quality standards program. Thirteenth Tennessee Water Resources Symposium

Attendees will have the opportunity to attend three days of workshops on subjects including: wastewater management, flood frequency, stream ecology, water quality, resource restoration, and many other subjects. American Wetlands Conference

The next biennial American Wetlands Conference will include workshops, field trips, practical demonstrations, and other programs designed to promote wetlands conservation and education projects. This year’s conference will focus on three areas: education and outreach, wetland science, and wetland conservation policy. The conference will also include sessions linked to the 2003 American Wetlands Campaign Theme – Bogs, Playas, Pools: Protect America’s Unique Wetlands, and public events planned in conjunction with American Wetlands Month (May). The American Wetlands Conference is part of the American Wetlands Campaign, a project of the Izaak Walton League, a conservation group with more than 50,000 members. This year’s fourth annual River Rally for river and watershed protection is scheduled to be held at the Skamania Lodge, near the Columbia River Gorge. Open to staff and board members of organizations with River Network partnership affiliation (partnership available for $100 fee), the River Rally will feature networking opportunities with other River Network partners, exhibits from agencies nationwide, regionally focused roundtable meetings, funding workshops, and many other programs and events.
