Funding

Funding for Environmental Projects for Children
The Captain Planet Foundation is offering grant money, typically $500-$2500, to organizations who are working on environmental education and other environmental projects with child involvement as a primary goal. Funding is targeted at neighborhood and community efforts; previously funded projects have included such programs as 5-13 year-olds building an environmental outdoor laboratory in Memphis, TN, and for an elementary school in South Point, Ohio to test Solida Creek for bacteria levels and to monitor water quality. For more information about available funding and for a grant application, visit the foundation’s web site at www.captainplanetfdn.org

Foundation offers Grants for Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Programs
Pet overpopulation is an immense problem that is beginning to affect watershed protection nationwide, particularly in urban areas, where high concentrations of unmonitored domestic cats run free in watersheds and contribute to displacement of native watershed animal species through the spread of disease, competition for limited resources, and predatory behavior towards native animals. Feral cat colonies and other humane strategies including the “trap, neuter, release” method of controlling cat populations in fragile watersheds can reduce environmental damage caused by the uncontrolled release of cats into watershed environments by pet owners. Bob Barker, of “The Price Is Right” fame, has created the DJ&T Foundation to support the creation and maintenance of low-cost spay/neuter clinics and spay/neuter voucher programs nationwide. Visit www.djtfoundation.org to learn how to apply for funding.

U.S. EPA Makes Environmental Education Grants available to Local Agencies
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is taking applications for its Environmental Education Grants Program. The program provides grant money for ventures focused on environmental education practices related to environmental assessment or particular environmental problems. Kodak American Greenways Awards
The Greenways Awards, funded by Kodak in partnership with the Conservation Fund and the National Geographic Society, provides grants of up to $2,500 for the planning and creation of greenways across America. Public agencies are eligible to apply, but award preference is given to smaller community organizations. Applications can be submitted from March 1 to June 1 of each calendar year, with award announcements made in early fall. For more information and application materials, contact the American Greenways Program Coordinator, The Conservation Fund, phone: 703-525-6300, email: greenways@conservationfund.org, or visit their web site at http://www.conservationfund.org/?article=2372

Patagonia Environmental Grants
Patagonia, a worldwide outdoor apparel retailer, is committed to donate 10 percent of their annual pre-tax profits or one percent of sales, whichever is greater, to grassroots environmental groups. Most grants are in the range of $3,000-$8,000. Their Enviro Action campaign has given more than $17 million to 1,000+ organizations since their grant program was established. To learn about groups that have previously received funding from Patagonia, and for full details on how your group can apply for funding, visit their web site at http://www.patagonia.com/enviro/enviro_grants.shtml
