Funding
American Land Conservation Program
The Richard King Mellon Foundation, with assets exceeding
$1.6 billion, is dedicated to making grants in the public
interest. Its grants are disbursed in two categories: The
Land Conservation Program, a national program dedicated to
purchasing land in danger of development; and a series of
grants, including environment-targeted funding, dedicated
to quality-of-life improvement of southwestern Pennsylvania.

Budweiser Conservation Scholarship Program
Anheiser-Busch is offering ten scholarships of $10,000 each
to support the studies of students who show an ability and
commitment to make a substantial contribution to the field
of conservation. The scholarships will be awarded to cover
tuition, fees, books, room and board and other direct educational
costs for students who are working to develop innovative solutions
to real-world environmental issues. Each applicant is asked
to submit a 1,500 word-maximum essay describing their academic
goals and a research project they propose as a solution for
a specific environmental problem. For more information about
how to apply to the Budweiser program, go to http://www.nfwf.org/programs/budscholarship.htm

Clean Water State Revolving Fund
Through the CWSRF, founded in 1987, all 50 states and Puerto
Rico offer customized loans to fund water quality projects
including wastewater treatment, nonpoint source pollution
control, and watershed management. Funds are provided through
federal grants and state matching funds. An average of $3.8
billion over the past five years has been disbursed through
this program, and the fund has provided over 12,500 low-interest
loans totaling more than $38.7 billion since its inception.
Interest rates for CWSRF loans average 2.5 percent, less than
half the market loan rate, with flexible payment terms for
up to 20 years. Last year, more than two-thirds of the loans
were provided to communities of less than 10,000. Farmers,
homeowners, businesses, and nonprofit organizations are also
eligible for funding. Some states offer special loan terms
to disadvantaged borrowers that may include reduced interest
rates and extended payment terms. For more information about
this program, visit http://www.epa.gov/owm/cwfinance/cwsrf/index.htm
Southern Rivers Conservation
In partnership with public and private sources, including
Phillip Morris and the U.S. EPA, the National Fish and Wildlife
Foundation has created the Southern Rivers Conservation Initiative
to protect and restore freshwater ecosystems through efforts
to improve water quality, restore aquatic habitats, and preserve
the diversity of freshwater animal life. Grants are given
in three focus areas: Southern Mussel Conservation, Southeastern
Imperiled Fishes Management, and the Restore our Southern
Rivers program. For more information and to apply for funding,
go to http://www.nfwf.org/programs/ROSR.htm
Wildlife Forever
In the past decade, Wildlife Forever has given more than $5
million in grants for 500+ projects in the U.S. and Canada
benefiting fish and wildlife. Grants are given on a "challenge"
basis, requiring a funding match of at least one-to-one from
a third-party donor and given through Wildlife Forever. Particular
importance is given to grassroots programs, with a focus on
research management, education, and acquisition proposals.
